Participation is the lifeblood of any open source project and our community was founded on the strong belief that someone who stumbles across the software for the first time today can be tomorrow’s world-class rockstar contributor. All it takes is desire and the right resources and below we outline a number of ways to start.

Read over the Community Guidelines

Great communities require a set of common standards that allow everyone to work and play productively and efficiently. For that reason, we’ve created the Open Melody Community Guidelines. Please give it a read and help us develop them further if you have feedback.

Subscribe to the Melody Announcements

We have an mailing list—openmelody-announcements—to which we only send release announcements. If you do nothing else, you should definitely subscribe to this. Or, if you prefer feeds, you can subscribe to the Release Announcements feed for the same information.

Subscribe to the Community Discussion

The community mailing list is the place where all discussion related to the software and project occurs:

Friend or follow on Twitter and Facebook!

For those about to tweet, we salute you! Or if you’re into that sort of thing, you can flatter us with your fandom on Facebook.

Watch Us Go on GitHub and the Wiki!

If you’re as smitten as we are with the software, you’ll want to keep an eye on its developments. You can follow along with our planning and Contributor resources on the Open Melody wiki. For actual development, we use GitHub because we think it’s the bees knees. By signing up with GitHub and becoming a watcher, you can not only find out all the latest but also give the team a boost of support.

/join us and /say hi in IRC

There are always a bunch of the core developers and contributors hanging out in the IRC channel on irc.freenode.net. And it publicly logged so you never have to miss anything!

Join our Weekly Conference Calls

We have a weekly recorded conference call every Wednesday at 1pm ET/10am PT where we discuss current events and issues related to the software and project as well.

Want to Do More?

If all of this has gotten you excited about jumping in with both feet, by all means, jump in and contribute!
