A core value of the Open Melody Software Group is transparency, or a promise to develop and discuss the product out in the open so that everyone has an equal chance to participate, audit our process, influence our roadmap and share in the excitement of building a product together. We have always known that if we were going to succeed in meeting our own standards for transparency, then we would need to engender it into our process early on. That is why from the very first time we met as a group to create Melody we decided to record our conversations, so that our community would always have the chance to go back, listen and learn for themselves how and why this project was formulated.

FYI: Our first public conference call is being held tomorrow, June 26, 2009 at 10:00a PDT/1:00p EDT. Everyone is welcome!

Meet Melody's Makers

From the very start, we set out to create a project with a goal, a group ethos, processes and infrastructure that would push the bounds of the phrase “Community-run”. We put off deciding anything that didn’t have to be decided by launch time for the sole purpose of making sure that you—the new and quickly-growing Melody community—were on board with us to determine the future.

Melody Web Site BadgesWe could not be more excited for having finally released Melody today. Sadly, any relief we feel now will be short lived because very soon the real work will begin.

In the meantime, let us enjoy this calm before the storm and celebrate our success today by adding a Melody badge to our blogs. For the die-hard fans out there, we also created some beautiful Melody desktop wallpaper. All of which, and more, is available on our new Melody Toys page.

Introducing Melody.

Welcome to the Melody web site and project. Melody is an open source content management and publishing application created by people who share an abiding passion for blogging, open source and especially for Movable Type. Melody is a project initiated and governed by many of the members of the Movable Type community who have a shared desire to help in building a better blogging product that benefits Movable Type and Melody users alike. Central to its mission and its future success are the freedoms manifest in and inherent to open source; the very same freedoms which enable us to start this project today.
